Health & Safety Committee Update

As a designated training agency from the Government of Alberta, the CCSA’s HSC/HS Rep training meets newly legislated mandatory training requirements for HSC co-chairs and Health and Safety Representatives. Training will assist them to understand their legislated duties and functions. While employers are not required to ensure committee members attend this workshop, it is strongly advised that they attend this training as part of their legislated annual training allotment (of the greater of 16-hours or two-shifts).

When considering whether your committee members should attend this course, consider the following:

  • How long has your committee been in place for?
  • How effective is your current committee?
  • Are there new members on the committee who would benefit from additional information about their role and responsibility as a committee member?

Important notice: Joint OHS Committee training received through the CCSA, or other training agencies, prior to 2019 does not meet the new OHS legislated criteria.

The mandatory HSC/HS Representative training requires completion of two training components:

  1. the free two-hour prerequisite CCOHS webinar, here is a link to that webinar: https://www.ccohs.ca/distributors/alberta/
  2. the eight-hour classroom-based workshop delivered by CCSA. The cost of this program is $75 per participant for CCSA members or $125 + travel expenses for non-members.

NOTE: Proof of completion of the 2-hour prerequisite is required prior to attending the CCSA’s 8-hour HSC workshop.

CCSA has scheduled training sessions for workshop delivery in Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer, Lloydminster, Grand Prairie, and Lethbridge. (www.continuingcaresafety.ca/calendar/events64/)

If the current calendar’s training offerings do not meet your needs, please complete the following on-site training request form: https://form.jotform.com/71865185822262

NOTE: on-site training requires a minimum of 5 or more participants but cannot exceed 25 per session. When completing the on-site training request form please identify the top three specific dates you would prefer, not just the months.
