MIP combined safe resident and matial handling helps give care staff the skills needed to reduce the                       risk of musculoskeletal injury (MSI). MSIs are one of the highest categories of injuries in the continuing  care industry.  Day 1 is designed to provide participants with the pre-requistie information and knowledge including best practice techniques to help staff work more effectively, efficiently, and productively while reducign the overall risk of injury.

Expected Outcome:

Indentify the early signs and symptoms of musculoskeletal injury (MSI) and explain its potential impacts.
Identify resident handling and material handing related hazards that can lead to injury.
Implement methods to reduce the risk of injury based on hazards.
Know the basics of and demonstrate the use of good body mechanics in relation to resident and material handling.

Activities include theoretical instruction and hands on practice.

Day 2 & 3:

There will be an opportunity to briefly review the workshop content which includes: your job your                              body, the principles of safe lifting, safe resident handling and safe manual materials handling, but the                        emphasis will be on practical, hands-on facilitation training.

Participants will be asked to present the workshop content throughout the course.  We provide a safe                      learning environment where participants can receive feedback from their peers. This course will provide participants with the knowledge and confidence required to deliver the workshop content to co-workers in their facilities.

Additionally, participants are provided with the tools required to deliver the workshops’ content including online access to the participant’s manuals, the workshops PowerPoint/PowerPoint(s) and participant’s handouts or workbooks, as required, and a copy of the trainer’s manual, lesson plans and additional materials to support facilitation of the workshop.
