Safety Program Development

Course Description:

This two-day program is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of individuals involved in building and maintaining their organization’s health and safety program. This training program introduces participants to a best practice, evidence based health and safety program framework and provides them with the tools required to identify risks at the workplace and identify and implement solutions.  Participants will also review relevant sections of the Alberta OHS Act, Regulation and Code. 

Upon completion of the program, participants will have created a basic framework for their organization’s health and safety program, and will be able to identify and assess existing elements using a continuous improvement process.     

Course topics include: 

  • Overview of the Partnerships in Injury Reduction (PIR) program
  • The purpose and benefits of an effective health and safety program.
  • The recommended elements of a comprehensive health and safety program.
  • Review of the applicable sections of the OHS Act, Regulation and Code that apply to each of the recommended elements.
  • How to build a continuous improvement process for maintaining a health and safety program.

Certification: 

This course has a written, open-book exam component.  Participants must achieve a minimum score of 80% in order to receive a certificate of completion.

    • Individuals who are looking to build or improve their organization’s safety program, regardless of COR should choose the Safety Program Development two-day course.
    • Individuals who wish to become a Certified CCSA Auditor must take the HSMS for Auditors two-day course as a prerequisite to the Auditor Training course.

Becoming a Certified CCSA Auditor:

To become a CCSA External or Internal Auditor, individuals must:

  • Complete the three-level program consisting of the HSMS for Auditors two-day course (Certificate of Completion); the Auditor Training course (Certificate of Completion); and a Qualification Audit Submission.
    • Qualification Audit Submission:
    • Participants must submit a qualification audit (individually conducted) within six months after completing the Auditor Training course.  If the Qualification Audit is approved by the CCSA Quality Assurance review, a CCSA Auditor Certificate will be issued.
